If you need long-term care, and are worried that the cost will be financially disastrous, you should be aware that where you live will affect the services and financial assistance available to you. New York State is among the most generous states with regard to Medicaid and assistance with the cost of long-term care.
Medicaid is a joint federal and state program, and different states contribute different amounts to their Medicaid programs. In states where the contribution to Medicaid is low, there may be few programs or benefits to help you. New York’s contribution to Medicaid is large compared to other states, and as a result, many programs have developed to assist seniors.
Lamson & Cutner has had clients move to Florida, only to return to New York when they realized they needed help and there was little available where they were. Our state is particularly helpful with regard to home care. Unlike in many other states, in New York, if you need care in your home, you can gain access to Medicaid very quickly. There is no five year “look back” for Community Medicaid, which covers care in the home or in an assisted living facility.
Lamson & Cutner is experienced in assisting clients to protect their assets and access government benefits.
