A DNR order is a document that instructs medical personnel that the person listed on the document does not wish to receive CPR if his or her heart and/or breathing stops. It will only take effect if the person is not able to communicate his or her wishes. Medical personnel will automatically perform CPR for a patient in a hospital or a nursing home when his or her heart and/or breathing stops, unless there is a DNR order. Unlike other Advance Directives such as a Health Care Proxy, a DNR order must be signed by a doctor or other health care provider after discussion with the person listed on the document. Not everyone wants a DNR. Because it is signed by a medical professional and not by our client, Lamson & Cutner does not work with DNR documents.
